Recent Flood and Fundraising Update

Guesthouse Flood Emphasizes Need

On Monday, June 10, ankle-deep waters covered the guesthouse grounds after a rain shower.  Below in an excerpt from the Life in San Juan Blog:

“Aside from us getting a little soggy, let me explain what happens when it rains in our barrio.  A few months ago the city came through and put curbs along the edges of our dirt streets.  It was meant to help us during the rainy season to direct the flow of the water towards the drains (the biggest drain is on the street right out front of the guesthouse).  The system works great, except for the fact that in the process of pouring concrete, they filled the drainage systems with a mixture of dirt and concrete that they never cleaned out . . . in less than an hour our street filled with nearly three feet of water.

In an attempt to do something to stop the rising water, we started an emergency chain gang with a line of buckets, and one bucket at a time attempted to lower the water in the street . . . We are so grateful for the team we have here from Northwoods who had awesome attitudes and were so ready to help in any way!  And praise God that we are in the process of constructing a new clinic (and eventually a new guesthouse!) that will mean safer, more accessible, and more sanitary conditions for patients and guests!”  To read more from this blog entry and see more pictures from the recent flood, visit the Life in San Juan Blog!

On the Road Again!

SRI Staff members, Joe and Shannon Zimmerman, continue to travel and spread the word of the REVOLUTION.  In the past month they met with mission committees and SRI supporters from First Presbyterian Church of Bryan, OH, First Presbyterian Church of Spartanburg, SC, and First Presbyterian Church of Gainesville, GA.  Excitement continues to build as more and more people become aware of the new clinic project and what we will be able to offer to those in need.
