“When I first was called to Second Presbyterian Church, I hoped we would find a mission partner that would allow us to put the considerable medical and construction experience within the church to Gospel use. We found a wonderful partner in Solid Rock International. Through the better part of two decades, we have sent many mission teams involving hundreds of people to San Juan de la Maguana. I have gone on many of those trips and have been a close witness of transformation, both in San Juan and within my church and community. I now know what a difference is made when a church invests itself in one community over many years. When we keep returning to a place of deepening friendship, a wisdom develops about the limits and wonders of different cultures, and we come to know personally how God’s love and the good news of the Gospel can be shared in both directions. That our congregation can take such a major role in getting the new hospital built and equipped is something I celebrate. I celebrate the difference the hospital will make in the lives of those who serve there and are treated there. And I celebrate the difference this ministry has already made at Second Presbyterian Church.”
-Dr. George Anderson, Senior Pastor of Second Presbyterian Church in Roanoke, VA
Since 2003, Second Presbyterian Church in Roanoke, VA has sent over 800 volunteers on 28 mission trips to the DR with SRI. Countless lives have been touched by this singular congregation with a big heart for service and strong commitment to helping the needy in San Juan de la Maguana. The church has faithfully supported the REVOLUTION Project since its inception, including congregation member Ken Potter taking the large role of Construction Coordinator and living onsite in the DR for three years.
Most recently, SRI was blessed to be one of the beneficiaries of the church’s Mission Build campaign. We are honored to share that through this campaign, the REVOLUTION Project has received a generous $400,000 from Second Presbyterian Church, bringing their total giving to the project up to $500,000. It goes without saying that a gift of this size makes a substantial impact on the overall budget as the facility nears completion and inches closer to opening its doors to the community. We praise God for the incredible history and partnership between SRI and Second Presbyterian Church and are thrilled to highlight the wonderful news of this recent contribution to the REVOLUTION Project.
