It’s OFFICIAL!!! Dominican and American teams have now begun construction on the new clinic! The first volunteer American team from Northwest Ohio began working on the perimeter wall. Thanks to Marlin, Lynn and Joe for being my guinea pigs as we worked out the kinks that go along with starting a new project. We began by digging holes for the columns and assembling some rebar columns. By the end of the week we even got to put a couple of the rebar forms in the ground.
On the Dominican side of things, we were delighted to see that on January 5th, around 8:00 A.M., two Caterpillar machines were delivered to the property via semi. The loader and tractor are part of a generous donation from a dealer in Santo Domingo, and will be used to remove the topsoil and add fill. This will be taking place in the next couple of weeks. The Dominican engineer has hired Dominican machine operators, surveyors, and truck drivers to work on the land preparation. This is the next major step of the construction, and the Caterpillar equipment was an excellent late Christmas present.
The Caterpillar equipment is ready to go!
While the land is being prepared, the American teams will continue to work on the perimeter wall. The teams will also be working on constructing a dining area for the soon-to-come work crews, as well as a small kitchen, storage area, and small office space. That being said, there is plenty of work for the next couple months and we will be having some great teams coming down. Prayers would be greatly appreciated as we continue to get the construction off the ground! Also please consider joining or forming a construction team of your own for sometime in 2015. Your help is much needed! Contact the Solid Rock International office for more information.
