Dulce SueÑos

Every night when Braegan goes to bed we tell each other “Dulce Sueños” (sweet dreams). But some nights my dreams aren’t so sweet…piles of blocks, splattering cement, a spinning mixer that never stops…some nights I close my eyes and that’s all I see…

Over the past month we’ve had a steady stream of groups, mostly working on the perimeter wall that will surround the new clinic. While it may be hard to see day to day, progress IS being made. As I look over the pictures from the last month I can see the wall creeping slowly along the property line. Teams from Ohio Northern University, Virginia Tech, and Northwoods Community Church all visited and put in long, hard, hot hours digging and pouring footers, mixing cement, tying rebar and laying block.

The Virginia Tech team, because they were engineering undergrads and grads, got to spend their final day with Eduard, the clinic construction project Engineer. They went to a mine, got an explanation of the project in its entirety, and visited a hydroelectric dam facility in the nearby mountains. This was a great experience for them, to see how a large-scale project is managed in another country.

Another mini-project (in comparison to the wall…) that Northwoods was able to do was re-pour a section of sidewalk that had slowly shifted over the last couple of years due to a stubborn tree root. So all of you who have tripped or stubbed a toe on that piece of sidewalk now have someone to thank for preventing future injuries! The second mini-project that many groups will be excited about is the replacement of our basketball hoop! Too many group members had been throwing it down, and our backboard was busted beyond repair. Northwoods cut a new one out of plywood, and a couple of nuts and bolts and coats of paint later, ta-da!!!

Some nights my dreams aren’t so sweet…but other nights I close my eyes and thank God for the people HE has sent to serve with me/us in this endeavor. I can feel the excitement from the groups as they ask us questions about what is to come with the new clinic. I see their eyes widen when they see the clinic construction site for the first time, or when returners see the change that has occurred in 6 months or a year. It’s on those nights that I find true rest…knowing (THANK GOD!), that I am not in control.
